On September 7, 1774, the Rev. Mr. Duche opened the Continental Congress with prayer, one which listeners described as "fervent," "pure," and "sublime." Rev. Duche's prayer established the precedent for a Congressional tradition which continues to this day. This poster commemorates that first prayer with descriptions of the historic occasion, as observed by two Founding Fathers who were in attendance, John Adams and Silas Deane. Great for any classroom!
